No Ghanaian will download the Windows 10 OS after reading this
The release of the Windows 10 operating system comes as good news for all Windows users, as the start menu is back, Cortana is integrated, it has the new Microsoft Edge browser, which can compete with the Google Chrome browser, allows for easy multitasking, and many more unique and exciting features. The Windows 10 OS is also faster than the Windows 7 OS, and a great platform.
However, one disadvantage it has for Africans and Ghanaians to be specific, who cannot afford to buy softwares, games, movies and more, is that the Windows 10 checks for Pirate Bay Torrents, bootleg games and hardware automatically.
Don’t plan on using any games or bootleg software downloaded from the Pirate Bay on Windows 10. The End User License Agreement in the new operating system makes it clear that Windows 10 is capable of scanning user machines and prohibiting them from using any services that appear to have been obtained illegally.
Most Ghanaians and Africans in general are highly dependent on illegally obtained movies, pirated software and games via numerous torrent websites. Even if one would want to purchase apps, the means are not available. Just a few people own credit cards, and there are hardly any distributors of original software programs around.
According to the End User License Agreement (EULA), the software “may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices.”
It is very clear that software developers are running out of patience with the numerous pirated games, movies and softwares.
Video game developers have increasingly required users to input an activation code that comes with purchased copies of the game, before they’re allowed to play such games online, reducing the appeal of a pirated copy.
Adobe, in reaction to endless Photoshop piracy, just recently unveiled a subscription-only version of the popular editing software, only for it to be pirated and redistributed within a day of its release.
Microsoft, developers of the Windows 10 OS are yet to publicly clarify what their EULA actually means, but this update is just the latest bone of contention for users concerned about their privacy. It was previously reported that Windows 10 will monitor users and send regular updates on their activity back to the company, even if they say they wish to share nothing at all.
Apart from this disadvantage, it’s definitely a great product, and we Africans should adapt to the new system, as bootlegging and piracy do not help developers at all. This is the future!
