25-year-old KNUST student sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbery.

A twenty-five year old third year chemistry student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been sentenced to 10 years in hard labour for robbing a fellow student.

Nana Yaw Kennedy Abrokwa was handed the sentence by the Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mrs Mary Nsenkyire on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and was convicted on his own plea by the court.

Facts of the case

According to the facts of the case as was presented by Chief Inspector (C/Inspector) Felix Akowuah, both the complainant and convict were students of KNUST.

He said while the convict was studying chemistry, the complainant was pursuing a course in Law.

He said on March 19, 2016 between the hours of 6 and 6:30 am, the complainant, Miss Ruby Akua Bour-Donkor, a resident of Gaza Hostel on campus, was on her way to the  gym at Ayeduase, close to the university.

Headmaster of Saint Gregory School at Gomoa Budumburam in the Central region has vowed to prevent a pregnant final year student from writing the upcoming West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) examinations.

Her crime, Rev Father Yaw Ganu said, is getting pregnant before completing her Senior High School (SHS) education.

He argued that, the conduct of the young girl [name withheld] is a violation of the rules and regulation of the Catholic school which imbibes into children discipline and self control.

The WAEC exams according to reports, starts on Thursday March 31 but students of the St. Gregory school are yet to see their index numbers.

They claim, Rev Father Ganu has kept the numbers a secret due to the incident and said he will only let them out few hours to the exams.

Corporal Yaw Lokpao, 34, who was stationed at Sawla police station in the Northern region, has been shot dead at Kalba on the Sawla-Tuna Road by some suspected armed robbers. 

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the two suspected robbers, who were on a motorbike, shot the police officer at close range after he ordered them to stop. 

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said the armed robbers fled the crime scene and left the police on the ground. 

The policeman was later rushed to the Sawla Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Sawla Hospital pending autopsy. 

Earlier the police in region assured the public of peaceful and incident-free holidays after a businessman was killed at Sawla.

An eighteen-year-old Senior High School student of Opoku Ware Senior High School in the Ashanti Region was yesterday stabbed to death following a confrontation between two men over a lover.

The deceased, identified as Isaac Kwesi Amponsah, according to an eyewitness account, was trying to separate the two men who were fighting when one of them stabbed him in the process.

The two men, identified as Justice Abban and Frank Kwabena, aka Taller, 43, were fighting over a woman at Olebu in the Ga West Municipality. Suspect Justice Abban, who allegedly pulled the knife to stab the schoolboy, according to the eyewitness account, was severely beaten by some neighbours before he was handed over to the police.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital under heavy security. The eyewitness indicated that the incident occurred around 7:30am yesterday morning.

Horror in Hwereso; Man kills girl, 17, after raping her.

A 17-year-old student of the Hwereso Junior High School near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region was Tuesday butchered after having been raped by a 25-year-old man.

Her assailant, named as Adongo Akanyire Azure, who also inflicted machete wounds on the deceased’s mother, later committed suicide at the Boankra Inland Port by allegedly drinking a poisonous substance.

Narrating the horrific incident to the Daily Graphic, the Ejisu Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Laear Baman, said around 12 midnight yesterday, the police had a call that Azure had killed a young lady after raping her.

He said the police went to the scene and saw the victim with a machete wound in the chest lying in a pool of blood.

He said according to the victim’s mother, they were in their room when Azure broke in holding a machete, a knife and a hammer, saying that he knew he was going to die and that before his died he would have to kill somebody.

High-grade act Kofi Kinaata who is making waves with his latest single Sweetie Pie says that it is not easy being a star.

In an interview with Delay on Viasat 1, he said; “Being a star or hitting stardorm is a problem on its own, the reason is simple; you just cannot go places or do what you used to do any more. Any time you try,  there is chaos in terms of people wanting to take pictures and all,” he said.

“If you don’t take time, you will end up losing yourself which is something I have tried not to do but it is just not working,” he added.

Real name, Martin King Arthur, Kofi  born in Takoradi, Effiakuma explained that it was not difficult working with musician Castro because he knew what he was capable of.

He said Castro, Samini and a few other musicians who have seen him rap know he is good and always delivers.

  6 killed in Kasoa-Winneba road accident; several injured

Six people are feared dead and several others severely injured in a car crash on the Kasoa-Winneba road, Poilce say.

 The unfortunate incident happened at Gomoa-Buduatta junction in the Central Region at about 10:45pm on Thursday, March 17 while it was raining heavily, ASP John Adika of Ojobi District Police confirmed.

According to eyewitnesses, a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with registration number GE-5526-15 which was heading from Takoradi to Accra collided with a Yutong bus with registration number GT-6454-10, heading from Accra to Takoradi.

The state of the two vehicles after the crash The Sprinter driver was said to have lost control resulting in the accident.

HULK HOGAN GETS AWARDED $115 MILLION IN DAMAGES IN GAWKER SEX TAPE LAWSUIT

     

Hulk Hogan has been awarded a massive settlement of $115 million in damages after a jury found that Gawker had violated his privacy by publishing a sex tape of him.
The wrestling legend was seeking $100 million damages from the website after it posted a clip of him having sex with Heather Clem – the now ex-wife of his former friend Bubba ‘The Love Sponge’ Clem – online in October 2012.

Lawyers for the website argued that the concept of freedom of the press was more important to uphold, even if the jury found the action distasteful, while his lawyers argued the video was not newsworthy and violated his privacy.
Hogan,62 previously said he hasn’t felt like himself since his sex tape was posted online.
He said:

“I just haven’t felt like myself… this is still tearing me up. I haven’t been able to get back up to who I was before [the tape]… I’m not the same person I was since all this craziness happened.”

Deloris Frimpong Manso and Ellen Korkor Asante, the lead star in Afia Schwarzengger TV show could not hide their tears when a premeditated plan to oust the latter from the show had to be squashed. Deloris, popularly known as Delay, had invited Korkor to the Delay Show to relieve her of her role as Afia Schwarzenegger and replace with a new actress.

Korkor is the third lead actress of the show, following Nana Hemaa who took over from Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa. As done previously, Delay who is the producer and director of the Afia Schwarzenegger show, periodically changes lead actresses for the show and replaces with a completely new actress. This time around however, the task proved to be more difficult as Delay decided to drop the bombshell on the Delay Show at the blind side of Korkor.

Minutes into the interview, Delay mentioned without mincing words that it was time for Korkor to leave the show, as agreed. Korkor however said she did not know that she was to be replaced on the show for another ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’ to take over the show. Amid tears, Korkor asked Delay to maintain her on the show because it has become a part of her, and she is now known for the show.

Businesswoman and media personality Deloris Frimpong Manso aka Delay who has created a virgin niche for herself since she got into the entertainment industry has gone back on her words.

On one of the episodes of her Delay talk show, the Oman FM presenter said that she is no more a virgin hence the change of name on her social media handles.

“Now I have changed my social media handle names, it is no more virgin Delay, the reason is simple, I am no more a virgin so I don’t see the need to parade myself as one,” she said.

According to her, she was 17 then, and she had just gone to meet Shatta Wale for the very first time at his Nima residence and it all happened that one thing led to the other and eventually, they ended up having sex.

On how she met Shatta Wale, she said, “I met him on Facebook, and we became good friends on Facebook, I was then in Norway. When I came to Ghana, any person I asked about Shatta Wale, it was all about the negative, and it was all those negative stories I heard which got me more attracted to him because I was also a bad girl loading.”

Afua Ansaa represents Ghana at the 89th Scripps National Spelling Bee

A 13 year-old girl, Afua Ansaa Manukure from the Ridge Church School, an international school located in Accra, has emerged winner of the 9th edition of the Spelling Bee national finals on Saturday 6th February 2016 and will be representing Ghana at the 89th Scripps National Spelling Bee in USA.

The Spelling Bee competition is a literacy programme for primary children between 8 to 13 years with the objective of teaching students the proper and effective use of the English Language.

Ghana has been the only African country which participated at the global level but the coordinators of the Spelling Bee have revealed plans to extend to Nigeria, Namibia and Kenya in subsequent years.

GIS Marks Annual Sports Day With A Difference

Track and field competition was organized for students by the Ghana International School (GIS), a world class international school in Accra, to celebrate its annual sports day on Monday 8th of February, 2016 at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

Students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the athletic oath being administered by the sports prefect, lighting of the spirit flame by the house reps and a 200m march pass by all partakers.

Participants showcased their unity, understanding and will-power in the various forms of sports activities such as long jump and flat and hurdle races to the admiration of their colleagues, parents and teachers.

Mr. Kwabena Kwakwa, a form three student who took part in the race, expressed excitement after he broke and set a new record for the 1,500m and 400m sprint.
