Headmaster vows to prevent pregnant student from writing exams
Headmaster of Saint Gregory School at Gomoa Budumburam in the Central region has vowed to prevent a pregnant final year student from writing the upcoming West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) examinations.
Her crime, Rev Father Yaw Ganu said, is getting pregnant before completing her Senior High School (SHS) education.
He argued that, the conduct of the young girl [name withheld] is a violation of the rules and regulation of the Catholic school which imbibes into children discipline and self control.
The WAEC exams according to reports, starts on Thursday March 31 but students of the St. Gregory school are yet to see their index numbers.
They claim, Rev Father Ganu has kept the numbers a secret due to the incident and said he will only let them out few hours to the exams.
Distraught mother of the pregnant girl, Florence Eyan has expressed shock at the conduct of the Roman Father.
She said all attempts to get the Headmaster to rescind his decision has proved futile since according to him, “allowing my truant daughter to write the exams will affect the 100 percent pass record of the school”.
“I went to borrow money to pay her registration so if she is prevented from writing, it means I have suffered for nothing” she fumed.
Madam Florence Eyan is therefore appealing to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to intervene to enable her daughter write her exams.
