A combined team from the Ghana Police and the Ghana National Fire Service are currently working to rescue the last person from the debris.
Speaking to Citi News the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Police Command ASP Effia Tenge said preliminary investigations suggest that the building was a restaurant under construction, adding that security officials are working to rescue the last person believed to be trapped in the rubble.
According to ASP Tenge, the building collapsed around 11:30pm last night when the victims were working at the site.
“Yesterday around 11:30pm the police had information that there was a collapsed building around Akai House so immediately the police dispatched men to the scene,” she stated.
She added that twelve persons were immediately sent to the Police Hospital and the 37 military hospital respectively for treatment “but six of them have been treated and discharged”
However, one person is believed to be trapped in the rubble and security personnel are currently digging the rubble to rescue the victim.
“We suspect that there is one person under the rubble and there is team of security personnel who are here to ensure that that one person under the rubble is rescued,” she added. ASP Tenge said investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident.
