Ugandan maid in ‘torture video’ given 4 years in jail

The Ugandan maid who was secretly caught on camera brutally beating up and kicking a toddler in the face has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment.

The Judge who delivered the judgment on Monday morning said Jolly Tumuhiirwe’s reasons for assaulting the innocent baby were unjustifiable.

“No amount of mistreatment of an adult to another should justify the kind of brutality exhibited by the convict upon a young, innocenmt, helpless, defenceless child. It is for this reason that I find the aggravating circumstances much stronger than the mitigating facts.
Therefore, the convict is hereby given a four year jail term in Luzira Prison,” said the Chief Magistrate.

Jolly pleaded guilty and apologized to the parents last Friday for her behaviour.
But the Chief Magistrate according to the Daily Monitor, while reading the sentence said, she had analysed submissions by both the defence and the prosecution.

“I have also taken note of the requests by both the complainant (parents of the baby) and the convict (Ms Tumuhiirwe).

The convict pleaded guilty and apologized to the parents. She also appeared remorseful. However, I did not consider the reason she gave for assaulting the child,” said the magistrate.

The maid, in a shaky voice told the court that her bosses, especially the baby’s mother Angella Mbabazi had on several occasions assaulted her and therefore, she transferred the anger to the innocent baby in retaliation.
