NDC Congress: Six aspirants withdraw from race

Six aspirants vying for various national executive positions in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have withdrawn from the race.

The withdrawal from the race leaves NDC delegates with a pool of 98 candidates to choose 23 executives.

Announcing the results of the Vetting Committee of the party, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia told Citi News that no reasons were given by the candidates for the withdrawal.

He said “After going through the exercise we were asked to assess whether they think they are ready to take the verdict or they will withdraw and in all the cases they withdrew. So that sends a signal to me that they are honest and they themselves agreed that they did not meet the criteria.”
“In the national organizer position, there was one Member of Parliament who had filed and he subsequently withdrew. He is Hon. Didieye MP for Afram Plains North. In the area of Vice Chair we have Rev Prof Lawson and Alhaji Mohammed Abass, the report indicates that they’ve withdrew.

Youth organizer we have Mr Okpolu Ahamadji he decided to withdraw and then Deputy Youth Organizer we have Fuseini Seidu Iddrisu he also decided to withdraw and then the Deputy Women Organizer category we have Agnes Adomah who also decided to withdraw,” said the party’s General Secretary.

The party will go to the polls on December 20, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia has also announced that logistics and other arrangements are set for the Congress on December 20.

Meanwhile, the party Youth and Women caucus will hold its congress in Kumasi and Wa respectively this Saturday to elect Organizers and Deputies for the two positions.
