A 30-YEAR-old taxi driver has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing fuel valued at GH¢128.
Thomas Yaw Frimpong, according to police, always escapes anytime he goes to a filling station to fill his tank with fuel.
Luck eluded him when a police patrol team spotted him and arrested him at Weija Tetegu last Wednesday.
An eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE that Frimpong, who had tampered with his Nissan Sentra number plate, operated in some selected filling stations in the area. Reports said the suspect usually orders fuel station attendants to fill his tank.
The suspect, who keeps the engine on, usually sits in the car for the attendant to discharge his or her duties.Immediately the attendant completes the task, he would speed off and leave the individual to his fate.
The suspect used this method to steal fuel from most filling stations along the Weija Road.
Narrating how Frimpong was finally apprehended by the police to DAILY GUIDE,Chief Superintendent Paul Kontomah, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, said on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, around 4:30am, Frimpong moved to the Engine Filling station located at Weija Junction and asked the attendant to fill the tank of his vehicle.
After the tank had been filled, Frimpong parked the car at a spot and pretended to check the fault. Frimpong deliberately removed his shirt and subsequently sped off.
A police patrol team that had also visited the station to get fuel was immediately informed so it gave the suspect a hot chase.
After several attempts to stop Frimpong by the police had failed, one of his vehicle tyres was shot before he was finally apprehended at Tetegu.
When the suspect was brought back to the station to pay the money, it emerged that he had no money to do so and he was conveyed to the regional police headquarters.
